ANN ARBOR, Mich. — "It's very embarrassing," said Corey Harris, 44, about learning that video showing him driving during a recent court hearing went viral.
"With the type of ties that I have with the church and the community, it's very embarrassing."
Harris appeared before Judge Cedric Simpson in Ann Arbor earlier this month for a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.
7 News Detroit asked Harris what was he thinking when he made his appearance in court via video where he was seen driving.
"What was I thinking? I was thinking about about getting my wife medical help. That's what I was thinking," Harris said. "I wasn't thinking about the fact that I got a suspended license. I don't care about all that."
Simpson ordered Harris to report to the Washtenaw County Jail that day by 6 p.m.
But Harris told us that he never should have been charged with driving on a suspended license last fall, and he blames the mix-up on Saginaw Friend of the Court.
"They were supposed to have been lifted it two years ago, but they didn't," Harris said.
Secretary of State records show Harris' license was first suspended in 2010 for unpaid child support in Saginaw County.
Then in 2022, court records show that a judge rescinded that suspension, allowing Harris to drive again. But it appears that information never got to the Secretary of State where even as of Thursday afternoon, Harris' license is still listed as suspended — the same records police and the judge were going by.
Harris spent two days in jail. And Thursday, Harris said he went back to the Secretary of State to try to resolve the matter.
We reached out to the director of Saginaw's Friend of the Court in hopes of asking what may have gone wrong in Harris' case. We're waiting on their response.
Harris said, "Always double-check behind these workers because they will say that they will do something and they don't do it," Harris said.

lol, i am driving without insurance. just don't get pulled over. i have never been pulled over either.
Just drive the speed limit.
I drive 10 under always, because i am a slowster screw the speedsters grrr. People hate it though, especialllu on the highway, getting pissed im going 60 when the limit is 70 lol especiallly in rushhour. I love it when they honk at me or tail gate me, because that is when I slow down even more and watch their head explode.
Honestly speedsters are gross. Even 1 mile over the speed limit is too much. Slowsters rule speesters drool!!!! And I got my window rolled down playing bach or gospel music very loud, really pisses them off.

DC has 25% of its drivers without insurance.
Generally most states have around 10-20% without insurance. Lowest state is 6%
I love those chances (i am very lucky, 10% odds I win majority of time, i only start losing around 5%, i routinely beat roullete at casinos have made millions off my luck which took discipline to cultivate btw, unlike the lazy unlucksters)

everything under the table, no tax man because I am in college and live in the dorms, do business with private foreign company, and make under the standard deductible so I don't have to file
and anyway i just get insuranxe the day crash happens or say i didnt know it lapsed to judge, college honor roll no crkminal record yada yada yah, get off light (im white too).
also like 1 in 5 people in my state are driving on expired, revoked license or without insurance. Its not a big deal.

If someone runs into my car and shows signs of having no insurance, I will immediately fear for my life and enter a self defense situation

If I run into a car I am not stopping, I will just click the button for my license plate hider and drive away.
If my car is totalled, then I will just grab my license plate and run. My car is registered under a different vin number so that won't work if you are thinking about that.
