Chicago's Buckingham Fountain :marseycalvin: closed after being dyed red by protesters (you know who :palestenianshroomjak:) overnight

https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/chicagos-buckingham-fountain-vandalism/

In case you're too lazy to click the links, I'll give you a stitched-together summary...

The Chicago Park District on Saturday morning said Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park will be closed "until further notice," after it was vandalized by protesters overnight. The protesters dyed the water in the fountain red, and spray-painted the bricks on the surrounding plaza.

The messages, "Gaza is bleeding," and, "Stop genocide," were also scrawled on the plaza in front of the fountain. The messages have since been removed.

Staff said the vandalism happened sometime after 11 p.m., after the fountain was turned off for the night. Whatever red substance was used spread gradually throughout the water surrounding the fountain. As of late Saturday afternoon, they had drained the water about halfway. But they said every time they put clean water in, the water has stayed so opaque that they believe whatever was used to color the water is still too strong to dilute. Staff said while the red substance does not appear to be staining, they were nonetheless concerned it could permanently damage the fountain, so they made the decision to keep the fountain turned off until the issue is resolved. A staff member said he gave a water sample to the Park District environmental team, but there was no word on what specifically caused the color change as of Saturday afternoon.

Chicago Police said no arrests were made, and no injuries were reported.

On one hand, yet another r-slurred "protest piece" in which butthurt leftoids damage public property with paint and other colorful cowtools because CURRENT THING dictates that a nation defending itself from bloodthirsty terrorists who would not hesitate to kill and r*pe innocent people en masse constructs "genocide" worth protesting over (in the most useless and pathetic manner that helps nobody who actually needs aid)...but with that being said, seeing a fountain shooting red water like it's blood is pretty fricking sick and hardcore, so at least that's one positive here :rocker:

!chiraqis did you hear the news? Perhaps even took a pic? Show me!!!

Chicago already "agreed to a ceasefire", honestly what do these professors think Chicago has to do with stopping Israel . Are the national guardsmen sniping Palestine from here or something? Touch grass fr

Netanyahu is 100% going to hear about this and it will totally make him reconsider how he's waging war on Hamas. This is what it takes...?

"not the buckingham fountain!"

From the fountain to the lake, this will still do nothing in Gaza

Alright, you win. Chicago, please send your massive army to help Palestine. Can you stop defacing our city now?

Darn right, let's get the Gangster Disciples, Latin Kings, People Nation, and whatever's left of the Outfit and send them to defend Gaza

The secret Chicago militia is sending its fleet of SR-71s over as we speak in response to this protest

We have SR-71's? Why weren't they given to the CTA to speed things up?

Nah I wont be convinced until after protestors block highway traffic two more times.

I need them to do it 6 more times, then I'll *maybe* start thinking about it.

Fox News: VANDALS!! JUST PRANKS BRO!! NOTHING TO SEE HERE!!!

Reality: The water in Buckingham Fountain is dyed red by protesters making a statement against the Israel-Hamas war on Saturday, June 22, 2024, in Grant Park in Chicago. (Vincent Alban/Chicago Tribune)

That will surely change people's mind.

I was on the fence, until this.

Me too. A conflict that has been raging on for generations is one thing but vandalising the god darn fountain does it!

Why are so many people on Reddit ignorant of the purpose of protesting lol

Fricking up beloved landmarks, regardless of justification, isn't typically smiled upon by the general public. But if you wanna be an butthole, then butthole away.

Darn... that's definitely attention catching. Which cause is claiming this one?

The Palestine protestors.

Never heard of them

Oh wow. My eyes have been opened. The veil has parted and I am aware.

Want to know my opinion/position on the Israel-Palestine issue?

I just want the CTA to run effectively. I want more cranes in the city building housing. I'd like to see lower property taxes. More business in the loop. And a mayor who isn't a complete incompetent corrupt buffoon exercising nepotism for all his pastor bros.

That's my position.

Stunts like this definitely work. I know I am convinced. I wasn't sure before, but defacing a beloved landmark, the place I proposed to my wife, has certainly made me want to find and beat the heck out of a protestor.

I would not mind a Gaza protest during the NASCAR race.

Definitely. Ideally, they'd run out on the track mid race, link arms and wait...

Don't they know the city officially opposed the war in Gaza?!?

They were actually my second thought after the Just Stop Oil guys who thought throwing orange shit on Stonehenge made a valid political statement.

you know who

I actually guessed wrong. I guessed Just Stop Oil and not pro-Gaza folx. I think I saw "Buckingham," thought Britain, and then didn't notice the Chicago part.
