My understanding is that Cyprus was chugging along well enough in stable but fragile peace with the Turks.
Then the Greeks were like 'you know what - we're taking back Cyprus' (rightfully or wrongfully because Ottoman Empire bullshit).
But being lazy, disorganised Greeks, they were not prepared for Turks to sperg out and put up a defense and got their shit pushed in. Fricking ridiculously bungled situation from the Greeks.
