Harris to propose $25K in down payment support for 1st-time homebuyers : neoliberal

This has already been done in other countries and all it did was make those houses $25K more expensive and incentivizes builders to cut corners by rapidly throwing up houses to be hungrily slurped up by less-discerning and uninformed buyers spending other people's money.

And, if the $25K (or any other assistance) comes in the form of a low-interest loan, it creates a time-bomb for when the loans run out. The homeowners can't afford to pay the mortgage when it's no longer subsidized and they can't sell their homes without taking a big loss because they are A. Crappily built and falling apart. B. Everyone is in the same position and selling at the same time. and C. People who can't save up a deposit don't suddenly start 'building wealth' if you give them a handout.

Add this to the list of Harris policies that you have to find out via the media. Her own website doesn't even have a policy section.

I did find this tidbit though.

She went up against discrimination and won — leading the team that helped bring down California's Proposition 8 at the U.S. Supreme Court and fighting for marriage equality nationwide.

Prop 8 was passed via direct democracy. Why do democrats hate democracy?

This is the kid running for school council promising ice cream everyday. Unfortunately your John Q. R-slur doesn't know the most basic things about how the government works. This is stuff they should have learned in middle school or at least high school but the education system failed them.

I wish I had a megaphone where I could scream into the ear of all these people that Congress has the money. The President cannot give you money (except a little bit in emergency situations). The President cannot buy a house for you.

What I see consistently in Harris' campaign (and the later part of Biden's) is that she's throwing out these really stupid policy proposals that us in the intelligentsia know are lies, but she hopes swing voters are dumb enough to believe it. She's trying to play Trump's game, promising poor r-slurs stuff she can't deliver. This is dangerous. She's making three big assumptions here: Legacy mass media will all just not report that these are lies, people won't find out through other platforms like Twitter, and poor people are total r-slurs. Now all of those are fairly likely, but all three of them? And meanwhile Trump is gonna be out there trying to one up her in making these promises.

The one that Harris' Ivy League graduate team take for granted is that poor people are r-slurs. But poor people can surprise you. A wise man once said "Some of the people are r-slurs all of the time, all of the people are r-slurs sometimes, but you can't make all of the people be r-slurred all of the time."
