Prop 47 wasn't as bad as people think. California had a very low felony cutoff and even the current $950 is lower than law-and-order states like Texas. The problem is that the state stopped giving a frick about misdemeanor theft altogether. Technically it's still punishable by up to six months in prison but it's impossible to lock anybody up because of other anti-incarceration laws that were passed. I think the root problem is that the prison system is expensive and the state doesn't want to pay for it, so they're trying to shrink it under the guise of woke ideology.
