The cull is necessary to prevent extinction of the spotted owl, which is being pushed out of its native range by the barred owl, a native of the East Coast, said Kessina Lee, state supervisor for the Oregon office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which developed the program.

Maybe if the spotted owls wanted to live they should get better at living?

I get why they're doing the cull and I don't necessarily agree but I do sometimes wonder how much we're interrupting evolution by saving species that should go extinct. Or maybe it doesn't matter because we (humans) prefer a greater variety of species even if they're not well-suited for survival.

I'm usually for conservation efforts but I don't understand intervening if it's due to a natural cause. On the other hand they are really cute.

Nevermind, that's a European spotted owl. The American one is pretty ugly and therefore deserves to die.

Yeah I can only really see it if humans were responsible for introducing the "invasive species", and even then, only if the extinction of the native species causes some kind of ecological collapse (I'm thinking about stuff like asian carp here).

The article says this is men's fault for logging their habitats

Yeah, this one isn't even invasive.
