As a kid growing up in the 90s, "everybody knew" that Chinese restaurants stole and served neighborhood pets. "Everybody knew" really meant we'd all heard the stories. And "everybody" really meant us kids... and a few grown-ups who, looking back, were jerks.

First they were brutally colonized by France, and then France decided Haiti had to pay a tithe to it which it is still doing. And the Haitian people are very kind. Many work in nursing homes and take excellent, compassionate care of the old.

The tithe was paid off like 80 years ago.
