Well firstly, Lebanon, so they don't even know how a lager works beyond push button.

Secondly Mossad has easy access to discrete explosives. As long as it's wired to whatever the detonator would be and they have it set up, they can just blow a small amount, maybe a few grams worth potentially stuff in the shell of the pager.
