If closing down road lanes doesn't cause any more demand, why limit this to bike lanes? Just turn every 4-lane into a 2-lane and we can find other uses for that land.

This bullshit of increased capacity on the roads actually putting more cars on the road is one of these things where you have to be educated into being this r-slurred. Any normal person with any common sense can think of themselves. Have you ever just decided to stay home because you wanted to avoid traffic? When people go somewhere in a car, usually they have a darn good reason for it and it's not just a joyride.

Ikr its like they think we all want to be stuck in the harbor tunnel at 7:27am,just because it's what we do for fun.

Like we all haven't had that dream where cracks show up in the roof of the tunnel and seawater starts pouring in and we can't get our seatbelts undone before we drown to death :marseydrowned:

Yea I fricking love tunnels bro

How long it takes to get somewhere definitely factors into people's plans. When I lived in a city where it was a pain in the butt to get to the children's museum, I took my kids maybe once a year. When we moved to another city where there was much less congestion, we bought an annual pass and went twice a month. People aren't cancelling plans because of traffic, but they do adjust for it.

Implementing bike lanes at the expense of transit users is an equity issue and imo poor governance.

In Toronto, the city recently released a report looking at a section of ... thoroughfare where it installed bike lanes ... It compared traffic from a period before the lanes were added... with the same period one year later, and found "average increases in motor vehicle times ... from [DOUBLE] eastbound and [TRIPLE] , depending on the time of day and the direction of travel."

Imagine my surprise

But Saxe said those findings are misleading.
