Seriously, can some Potato-neighbor explain the difference in pronunciation between 'Fianna' (which I know was Finn McColl's D&D roleplay group) and 'Fine' (which I think means 'big').
We don't have an Irish ping group. That's probably a good sign that there aren't many of them here. Let me cast a large net... !europoors !eurochads !britbongs !palestine (that last one for obvious reasons)

This one's a more regional thing. Up North people would pronounce more like "Paw-drag" (soft a), but in the free state you'd hear the "Paw-rick" pronunciation more. It's also spelled as Padhraic sometimes, and the dh sound is (in this context) much more like "Paw-rick" if you read it in an Irish language voice.
There's way more shit I can get in to with the Irish language and its influence on how these names are said but instead I'll just crypost about how mad I am that Pádraig Pearse and all the lads didn't bring back Ogham

They buckbroke the Irish language by arbitrarily replacing gaelic script for the gay latinised version. Imagine never having to deal with ch ever again when writing and all the bizarre spelling changes.
