It astounds me that the entire cadre of politicians refused to speak honestly about the dangers of Islamism and immigration well past the point where the majority of their populations made it clear they would throw them out of office over it.

This, but in the complete opposite direction. Politicians in Germany constantly try to fearmonger about immigrants and refugees, and this follows a wave of massive crackdowns on immigration by the government.

The fact of the matter is that restricting immigration even further will undoubtedly lead to more death and worse outcomes for both Germans and immigrants, but saying so earnestly will get you voted out immediately.

This terror attack will have a small amount of Deaths, and these are unfortunate, but the worker shortages, especially in the health care sector will lead to many more deaths, and the current trajectory is that Germany will keep playing into the terrorists hands and further restrict immigration and further alienate Muslim citizens.
