What is chemsex?
Chemsex is a phenomenon that began about ten years ago and accelerated with the Covid-19 pandemic. The word itself is a contraction of two Anglo-Saxon terms: " chemicals " - which refers to chemical products - and " s*x ", which is rather transparent. According to the association Act'Up , which fights against the transmission of HIV, this practice refers to " the search for pleasure and sexual performance associated with the consumption of psychoactive substances, whether legal or illegal. " In concrete terms, chemsex consists of having one or more sexual relations after having consumed a disinhibiting product. What are the risks?

According to Act'Up, addiction is also a concept that comes into play in this sexual practice: " Chemsex can make the consumption of products part of a daily routine. It can change our behaviors with regard to s*x and can create addictive behaviors. " But as the association explains, " stigmatizing, denigrating, and making gays who practice chemsex feel guilty only makes the situation worse. "
Jérémie Crepel, administrator of the Northern Family Planning Association, discusses the dangers of stigmatization and repression of chemsexers in more detail.

Who can I contact for help?
The AIDES association has been campaigning for years to prevent the risks associated with chemsex. Several cowtools are made available by activists to answer certain questions or direct chemsexers to resources or medical care, but also to support them.
