you got a loicence to not sell enough cars? :marseybongcop:

New AutoMotive estimates that Ford could be 7,000 cars short of its ZEV target. With fines of £15,000 for every car short of the target that would leave it notionally with a bill of more than £100 million.

The law:

The United Kingdom's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate requires car manufacturers to ensure that a specified percentage of their new vehicle sales are zero-emission vehicles, primarily electric vehicles (EVs).

Manufacturers must meet increasing annual targets for zero-emission vehicle sales. For instance, in 2024, 22% of a manufacturer's new car sales must be zero-emission vehicles. This target is set to rise progressively, reaching 80% by 2030 and 100% by 2035

At what point does it become more profitable for Ford to just pull out of the UK? Are they really selling enough ICE cars in the UK to make this feasible?

It wouldn't surprise me if the majority of the vehicles they sell are Ford Transit vans. Thinking about it, I don't actually see many new Ford passenger cars these days, just a frick ton of old Focus and Fiesta models.

One of me mates swore off Ford after they stopped selling Fiestas, when his current Fiesta (ST obviously) goes he'll be finding another brand of car that lets him accelerate fast for cheap.

Unfortunately might end up having to stick with the fiesta for a while, the (new) cheap hot hatch is basically dead in this country at this point

They'll just limit the number of normal cars they sell. Toyota did it with the GR86, they sold out their UK allocation in about 5 minutes and they slowly drip-fed more throughout the year when they had space in their targets
