If you're asking why the people on /r/neoliberal are that way, it's probably because the meme of the real beliefs became the newer sub members' real beliefs. Before, you did have a lot of people in favor of more extreme free trade and immigration and whatnot with a lot more neurodivergent evidence to back it up. But it also had a little more nuance and a little more willingness to be wrong. Which is then what it was allegedly about when the sub got more "serious" - capitalists admitting the free market wasn't infallible.

Then as it aged and became a -r/politics colony, you got newer members all psyched at how cool and smarty pants it was starting to repeat the "open borders" mantra and zoomer cliquing and identity "we ARE neoliberals." This really shifted harder in 2020 when the mods "invited" all the Bernie bros who were finally catching on that somebody was lying to them that Bernie could still win (which they never really figured out.) This big tent really cemented the transformation. "Open borders and free trade" is the slogan most don't really understand, but BELIEVE in to the fullest extent it can go, no matter what, because they are "neoliberals". Now you have r-slurred ghouls saying muzzie terrorists are a harsh necessity for saving the west with immigration and that American workers should just put on chastity cages for their superior Asian-Jeet overlords (and s, everything all about s), and THAT'S what a neoliberal is because they are neoliberals and the sub has always been that way for them, the neoliberals.
