The top comments are all pairings of relevant criticism of the r-slurred left wing article with obligatory "this is just like the time Trump said Haitians ate dogs!" (i.e. but don't worry, we still hate republicans even more!) virtue signaling shit.

I don't understand your point, I think you're confused about that sub's political stances. Jacobin isn't "their" media. /r/neoliberal are Democrats, but they aren't leftists. They hate commies, they dislike Bernie. And naturally they also hate Trump.

I don't see how making a point that both things they don't like are similar is "virtue signaling".

It almost feels like you just got triggered because they're speaking bad of "muh Trumperino" :marseysmug2:

It should be pretty obvious, but I'll break it down for you. I know they're not far leftists like Jacobin. That's why they're even attacking them at all. But what I'm saying is that the obligatory pairing of criticism with irrelevant whining about Trump, Vance, etc. is part of them being broadly leftists. In effect, that they feel a need to attack the right while being critical of part of the left in order to signal that they are not themselves right wingers.

Edit: I'll add that it's ironic in the context of the pictured Tweet. The Jacobin guy is saying "Oh, so you must be a supporter of Blackstone if you point out my inaccuracy" and they're dunking on it while simultaneously being beholden to the same logic. It's a preemptive response to the impending "Oh, you must be supporters of Trump is you talk about Jacobin's inaccuracy."

So every time someone makes a point that X is just like Y, especially when Y is a thing more commonly talked about, it's virtue signalling. Noted.

Yes, it's virtue signaling when they feel the need to bring up unrelated jabs at Trump and Vance in order to signal their virtue.
