Worst Korean rightoids pull off their own dollar store version of Jan 6th

https://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/news/2025-01-19/national/politics/Court-formally-issues-arrest-warrant-for-Yoon-first-for-a-sitting-Korean-president/2225327

I'm sure some Korean user knows more about this than me, but here's my tldr:

After rolling one of the worst self-coups in history, enough conservatives crossed the aisle to impeach Yoon, and if I understand correctly mainly because he got into a spat with his own party leader, way before thiswhole fiasco. The Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) then tried to arrest him but initially failed, so they tried again with thousands of police men and succeded on the 2nd attempt, with Yoon surrendering without much of a fight. Now that the court ruled his arrest legal some of his pissed off supporters :brainletmaga: stormed the court responsible for this decision.

some Korean user

I'm trans-Korean and that's gonna have to do for now.

At the very least you need one military unit that you can trust to be on your side and go all the way with you. He didn't even have that.

Something I didn't get until a few days ago: The CIO isn't part of the prosecutor's office. Which is important because the prosecutors in Korea are way more important than they are in America and even more important, Yun's whole claim to fame was being the chief prosecutor and (among other things) prosecuting President Park Geun-Hye. The CIO was set up a few years ago by the left-wing government to go after their political opponents. So the leftoids have managed to turn this from a slam dunk case against Yun into a political thing. Especially embarrassing because Yun's justification for the coup is that the left was going to do their own coup. Now they're... doing their own coup which apparently proves him right.

So the whole thing is a total shitshow. Nobody likes Yun except fringe extremists. But the left is doing all kinds of really dirty quasi-legal stuff. Their attitude isn't "OMG there was a coup attempt, let's deal with that". It's "wow we've got a great opportunity to do whatever we want". But Western journos won't tell you about that because what they're doing is way more complicated and hard to explain. And they're all pinkos.

Joongang is a pretty good source. They're definitely right-wing but not crazy where they're going to actually lie. You just have to keep in mind they're a little biased.
