Don't forget the need to insert politics into every sub, even entirely apolitical ones. I used to frequent /r/youtubehaiku then the front page every day was half seethe and I lost interest. Looking right now it was 2.8 million subs but only 23 people actively on the sub.

Yes conflict is the bread and butter of social media sites. People arguing, challenging the stories, being wrong, people making jokes etc. None of those things are openly tolerated on Reddit besides within an extremely narrow context where everyone basically agrees with each other or jokes are extremely tame non jokes.

You can barely comment on 50%+ of theads because they are locked just as threads become lively. All simply because mods are lazy or set such a high bar for content that it's impossible to allow anyone to freely post

/r/news has become a fascinating study in the decline of Reddit. Users aren't allowed to comment unless their account is already established, and the mods swing the ban hammer around like mad.

Most interesting however is that the /r/news mods only allow a tiny handful of posts per day (usually ones involving a police officer or pastor doing something naughty). Anything else gets swiftly removed, regardless of how newsworthy it is. For example, they wouldn't allow any articles about the IDF's raid to free hostages in Gaza, even articles that painted the IDF in a bad light.

How can a website be "The Front Page of the Internet", when the so-called "News" subreddit methodically suppresses news like that? Not many new users are going to find that attractive.

When a ten cabal can just ban you from 90% of the platform why even bother trying to navigate the newstrag filters? My last Reddit account was banned in 2020 and I don't even lurk now that they've started blocking VPNs, meanwhile I created a Xitter account for the first time in my life because that's where all the action is.
