Dramacels, !spacechads, what are some of the most ludicrous, possibly wrongful and reddity pop sci videos/channels you've come across?
My thumbnail example is a Kursgesagt video about Terraforming Venus.
I know they try to make it as “scientifically sound” as possible, but the whole idea sooooo incredibly far-fetched, it involves building giant planet size mirrors to cover sunlight from Venus so the CO2 in the atmosphere freezes, followed by harvesting nitrogen from Titan and removing all the frozen CO2. Not to mention water from Europan ice and another giant mirror to provide day/night cycles (as Venus is almost tidally locked).
Another is their Dyson sphere video
Which includes disassembling Mercury
They also have these pop physics videos where they try to convey some “deep” philosophical ideas like this one.
@Geralt_of_Uganda I remember you made a thread on them once

I know I'm a very pessimistic negative nancy much of the time, but much of that unrestrained praise and false wholesomeness is very bizarre to me.
It feels off and falsified, like people imitating mirrors. I don't know how to put it into words
It's not that I don't enjoy hopeful discussions about an improved future, but I find that dissecting the shortcomings of over promised engineering projects and faltered undertakings can often create a greater understanding of shit than false make-believe
I often find greater insight in the Human condition, AKA our ingrained r-sluration, can be gained by studying our failures, rather than about some fake wholesome imagining

Your words might mean more if you achieved more than shitposting on an obscure site for social outcasts glorifying luddism.

People gotta hope to strive, and hoping is crazy to begin with.

No there's a difference between holding healthy hope to future improvements, be it for a club or a country, and wasting vast mental energy on false projects, foregone shit shows or holding your self blind to the corruption of of a system
These kurz video ideas and moron audience reminds me of people holding grandiose ANC annual municipality meetings about renovating hospitals or public houses to win provincial town of year awards, when we have such problems as no active sewage refineries working.
In theory there should be enough time in the world for both pressing and trivial ideals discussions in these types of things, but I have seen the effects of diluting practical ground necessary projects, with false philosophical bullshit,
The practical needs always lose out to the nonsense

It feels the same to me as people who buy lottery tickets. When you buy a lottery ticket, you're more so just buying and excuse to daydream about fantastical “what if's” exponentially better than your current state. Conversely, the more tempered approach you describe is like the people that invest regularly, wisely, and frankly boringly, that tend to actually see the results.
I do enjoy the extreme moonshot ideas and the wild extrapolation myself. Then I go back to the real world where minuscule incremental progress is all that works.
Let's be honest, the vast majority of the Kurtz audience will probably never even learn calculus or even diagram a benzene molecule. There is no real opportunity value by pop science, except for Saudi Arabia's NEOM line city lol

The good thing is that the soyence fans won't be setting public policy or influencing much in general.
Except maybe "green" subsidies, but that's a small chunk of the pie in the US.

The face is itself a false simularcrum of what soulless bugmen cattle think is a sign of happiness. Something their meagre existence is bereft of suckling the teat of a ruling class that hates them and hiding in their shadow.

You mean the general video style/formula they use?
Looking back at astrobotic's failure with their moon lander and the quasi failure of Intuitive Machines for instance just shows how darn hard is to land on the moon, it also shows how incredible the Luna probes and the Apollo landings were back in the 1960s and 1970s, same will go for Artemis once they land in a few years.

The study of failure is absolutely critical for the development of success. I will repeatedly design things that fail in some specific way to examine how they fail.
Reject the opinions of anyone who thinks you can overcome thermodynamics by being a secular humanist hard enough.

Somebody has to have tried for there to be a failure to study from, that's the critical part you neighbors seem to forget about science.

I'm just happy that some people are excited about scientific ideas. I don't really care if they're midwits or sound stupid because it's better for it to be science than something r-slurred like shitty music and celeb gossip.
People who like studying failures want a deeper understanding. Most people are not like that because they lack the will and are kinda dumb.
