My thumbnail example is a Kursgesagt video about Terraforming Venus.
I know they try to make it as “scientifically sound” as possible, but the whole idea sooooo incredibly far-fetched, it involves building giant planet size mirrors to cover sunlight from Venus so the CO2 in the atmosphere freezes, followed by harvesting nitrogen from Titan and removing all the frozen CO2. Not to mention water from Europan ice and another giant mirror to provide day/night cycles (as Venus is almost tidally locked).
Another is their Dyson sphere video
Which includes disassembling Mercury
They also have these pop physics videos where they try to convey some “deep” philosophical ideas like this one.

It feels the same to me as people who buy lottery tickets. When you buy a lottery ticket, you're more so just buying and excuse to daydream about fantastical “what if's” exponentially better than your current state. Conversely, the more tempered approach you describe is like the people that invest regularly, wisely, and frankly boringly, that tend to actually see the results.
I do enjoy the extreme moonshot ideas and the wild extrapolation myself. Then I go back to the real world where minuscule incremental progress is all that works.

It's not taken seriously because it's more fit for a philosophy discussion, but in terms of feasibility it heavily depends on the assumption of the universe being ergodic (basically the assumption that every state of the universe/configuration of particles is possible to be reached). Now someone smarter than me could correct me on this because I suck at statmech, but I think the majority opinion is that the universe is non-ergodic and as such a Boltzmann brain might not be able to exist.
On the other hand if the ergodic assumption is correct and such a thing can exist, it still doesn't mean you are one. You'd have to compare probability of an ensembles forming a Boltzmann brain vs an ensemble forming... the world as we see and understand it, and while I've seen numbers thrown around to estimate the former, I have no idea how one would even go arround starting estimating the latter

Are a cool thing. Afaik if the assumptions they require hold (afaik they currently do) then it's inevitable that they form eventually. But it's basically irrelevant. More of a fun thought experiment. It's most likely more closely related to simulation theory (philosophy). I do remember I listened to a talk about those things a few years ago, by scientists who do dabble a bit in those fields.

I think the big issue with Kursgesagt is how they misrepresent science. They focus on the most out there, crazy, big, sci fi ideas which often have little to no testing ability. Is how you get people thinking science is transhumanism and string theory and multiverses and shit instead of actual areas of importance.

I think whats pushed me back to religion is not that i view it as correct but moreso that i realized that the scientific method and various scientists in addition to not being people-people are also incredibly dead set on the most neurodivergent sci fi concepts imaginable that will never happen and never will but are inherently more appealing to their demo because they check various power fantasy boxes: so time travel, space colonies, transhumanism and multiverse theory are treated as plausible whereas the afterlife, the separation of the mind and body and the performance of miracles or prayer as a healing factor arent because they dont fit the sci fi aesthetic.
