You can get a permit from the government as long as it doesn't go too high.

I want to try to do it on a model rocket scale but the EU is turbo cucked so it's hard to find suitable motors :platynooo:

lmao what, can you seriously not buy... little electric motors? Are you a bong?

:marseyyikes:

Proper small solid rocket motors. Pyrotechnics or bust

If you can get an engine to launch a rocket, why can't you get one to land it :marseybeanconfused:

For controlled rockets it's better to have a long but slow burn rather than the short and fast burns typically found in normal amateur motors.

It looks a lot larger than the rockets I launched when I had time for that hobby, what engine do you use on it? Or does it have a different kind of propellant?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

This launch just used a commercially available solid motor that's like 70cm long. Cesaroni Pro75 L2375 to be exact

Within in my rocketry team we are also working on our own self developed engines though. This one uses paraffin and liquid nitrous oxide.

Thanks. Do you plan on making your own propellant? If you aren't an r-slur, you can eventually upgrade to ammonium perchlorate propellant.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Not solid propellant but my student team is working on a hybrid engine with N2O and paraffin.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Wat. So do you need a pump?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Liquid nitrous oxide has a constant vapor pressure of ~50 bar so it "pumps" itself in a sense

Can you do guidance or does that run afowl of laws?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

You can usually do it but you have to frame it as "Oh I'm not doing active guidance I'm just doing active stabilization :marseyhearts:"

Are you able to get gps units with at will work at those speeds/altitudes or do you do telemetry another way

A good "normal" GPS receiver will generally work for most amateur rockets. There are some artificial export limits but those can only really be hit by proper missiles (like 5 times the speed of sound and 50km altitude). For reference my last one went to 3km and reached just above mach 1.

The radio transceiver on this board can measure distances so I want to develop my own GPS-ish system with static beacons on the ground. Mostly as a challenge but it could maybe be useful for things like active guidance where GPS wouldn't be accurate/fast enough.

Darn for some reason I thought the speed limit was way lower. That's bad butt though. Hopefully when my kid is older, I'll have time to get into amateur rockets

George Soros has paid me $25 million to create this hurricane with a wooden spoon, glitter, and a bottle of Prosecco. I can do this because I'm a woman, and I can bleed each month without dying. He is sending me the money via magical unicorn. Gay Rainbow unicorn, of course...
