How can I learn physics with a Harry Potter magic style? :sciencejak: :marseyfeynman: :dumbledoreagony: :marseyhermione:

!ifrickinglovescience !physics I came across this post from /r/askphysics. It was probably made by some high schooler (or so I hope) and the responses were actually helpful and very wholesome :marseywholesome: . But I couldn't resist not sharing it with dramatards :marseytroublemaker:

I'm really disappointed that supernatural stuff isn't real and wanted to remedy my lack of a hobby with indulgence in what is beyond my awareness and 5 senses. And what I can see.

Basically cause and effect feels magical yet is obviously explainable.

Also I have a serious learning disability which makes learning in the traditional ways impossible.

My adhd requires extreme sensory variation and mental bewilderment but my autism requires being fed far less information per self taught lesson.

I'm thinking Manila parchment, colorful models, a dark wooden room to study in, and because I'm going with a magic style aesthetic to interest me more, maybe I can make a spell book, but instead of spells, I write the basic concepts of each theory I'm learning about.

Which formula is the Avada Kedavra curse? Who's physics Voldemort?

People who try to conceptualize rigorous topics a la mysticism are the reason why shit like Oceangate fiascos happen nowadays lmao. Pop science has been a disaster for the scientific world

The only thing worse than psych is pop psych. I've seen tiktoks give "signs you're dating a narcissist" that include things like

He tells you about his bad childhood

He wants to date pretty and wealthy women

He gets upset when you insult him

It's a neat idea but it doesn't work for understanding science beyond an elementary school level.

shit like this comes across as cringy but we all had to start somewhere. if its some stupid magic (even tho the whole point of magic is the subversion of natural laws) that gets people initially interested in actually studying physics/math (therein lies the rub, otherwise its essentially roleplaying), whatevs :marseyshrug: to out autism this person, i did some back of the envelope calculations to find the exit velocity of a crude rail gun in D&D using lighting hands as a voltage source. :marseyautism:

And what was it?

from what i remember, took average lightning strike voltage, 1m^2 copper plates capacitor and copper wires, modeled firing as a discharging RLC circuit, found the current at each time, squared it to get infinite wire approximation magnetic field in the middle, lorentz law with circuit current to get force/acc, integrate over all time to get total velocity change. Apparently this was a 9g projectile at 900 m/s but i cannot read whatever jupyter notebook i threw together without any comments so :marseyshrug:

The opposite side of this is "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality". It's as awful as it sounds. SBF (of FTX infamy) and many other tech weirdos love it.

If they can't study now how do they expect to create all of these things in the first place?
