Holding horn so the sliced neck continues to bleed out from the carcass, so the bok is partly bled dry by the time we arrive at the slaughter poles, onwards from the hunting grounds

Holding the horns so it doesn't scrape the paint off of the vehicle as it justles from the off-road drive

I do not know if you guys can see in this basic phone camera picture, but a herd of tame blesbokke and springboks intermingled stands calmly just 50 meters away

Unfazed and unafraid, it seems like wild animals have a sixth sense and fricking know when you're hunting them or not

Whole morning we were hunting and could barely creep closer than 300 meters out on the open before the local herds became scittish and fricked off

Your options of hunting methods are limited in the open steppes grasslands of the treeless free state province

Now that the sly buggers knew we were done hunting, it's like they're mocking us

Khoisan crusher artefact, where grain, corn or maze was milled and crushed to make flour for bread or Pap (porridge) with crusher ball rock inside of it. The crusher stones are smooth from decades of smoothing and milling

Because we are what are known as Biltongjagters or "Meat-hunters". Meaning we hunt primarily for meat and not glory or horns or skins or anything, like expensive Buffalos or Elands or Sabels or the type of antelope which trophy hunters or foreign yanks with their powerful currency hunts.

Currently in SA, the blesbok is the biggest bang for buck, buck, because you get the most meat per price of the bok. They go on average for R 2000 for a ram, and you get a fair amount of meat per kilogram for that price range.

2nd contenders for best meat via hunting is the ever present Springbok or Rooibok/Impalas, but impalas are found only in Eastern SA in their natural environment.
