Why are people complaining how they are saving money and not enjoying life in a personal finance subreddit. These dorks live their lives as if they are forced at gunpoint to spend 100% of their paycheck each month

Every time I read stories like this, I smile when I think about how such a mindset almost guarantees they will die before retiring, having lived a life of self inflicted poverty, their hoarded wealth signifying nothing, changing nothing, meaning nothing.

Gold doesnt corrode lol. Gold is ETERNAL. I hate Christ, he was just jealous of the tax collectors who had all the gold.

They own their own house. R-slur forgets that everyone else is paying rent, without which 20k is pretty easy to live on.

Not remotely believable. "I bargained them down 30%" is just fanciful.

tbh I like posts like this, because a fundamental assumption of the "living wage" movement is that either everyone has suspiciously-high basic living expenses ("I have anxiety so I need to spend $1000/month on weed", "I neeeed to pay $3000/month for my city center apartment to do my $40k/year social media manager job and pay off my $200k in student loans") or that they just can't imagine living a decent life without being able to go to restaurants 3 times / week, having 10 weeks of paid vacation per year, etc. You won't live an Instagram-worthy life on this sort of budget, but you'll still live decently.

There's a midpoint between going out to restaurants 3x a week and living like a janitor from Detroit

Most of the things that would immediately be objectionable about "living like a janitor from Detroit" probably wouldn't apply to this couple.

This couple is probably one free coke bump away from ruining themselves

Give that they're pulling $200k+/year, they probably have some wiggle room.

Living wage movement is silly. Consider that there are people who live with no wage at all, that is they hunt their own food and make their own clothing and shit in a tribal community. Some of those folx in Papua New Guinea or Africa probably have happier lives than 1st worlders. There are many ways to βlive,β and you need to meet reality on realities terms also, not hold out hope that one day you will be paid what you deserve. Life is what you make it, returning to the jungle is always an option.

I spend about that much for me and my wife. You just have to actually cook from scratch lol.

I must admit our food bills were lower when we cooked more meals from scratch

WHY DO PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEIR OWN FOOD SPEND LESS THAN PEOPLE WHO PAY SOMEONE ELSE TO MAKE IT FOR THEM
THINK R-SLUR, THINK

You are correct. That said it's a time and convenience thing. It would be cheaper to buy a big piece of ham and slice it myself, but paying a dollar or two premium to have someone else do it and package it for me.
Guy in the linked thread claims to have breadmaking as a hobby; making all breads from flour water must save him money, but the final ingredient in this is free time. I don't mind cooking huge batches but it is a chore to me

You're right the only alternative to avoid funkos is to mill your own flour and walk to wok.
