Yep. I've noticed this too, I work in a high end steakhouse where 18-25% is standard, and bills are $100+ a head. The amount of 10-15% in the past couple weeks is astounding, especially on New Years itself.

I literally tip 2 dollars, if I tip at all. I regardless of the price of the meal leave 2 two dollars. Who the frick tips 20+ dollars?

Saying “25% is standard” is ridiculous. 20% is standard for acceptable service. Any higher than that and it’s getting ridiculous and going to cause tip fatigue

Frick me the sheer entitlement

15% is standard. 20% for exceptional service

Based and downmarseyd

Wrong. 20% is standard for acceptable service. 15% is insulting and means the guest was unhappy.

lmao

Same. It's basically a welfare job at this point too. I will happily haul my butt to the counter to order.

I can't tell you exactly when it changed, but tip standard has been 20% for quite a while. 15% was at least 15 years ago. Are you by any chance in your 70's? Because that was the norm in the heyday of their youth.

Bullshit. 10% was standard well into 2000s with 15% being standard from like ~2008 onwards. 20% was definitely not ‘standard’ until Covid. I will not be gaslit on this by a bunch of Reddit servers.

I have no problems with servers irl but the ones on reddit have probably the biggest chips on their shoulders out of any profession. Serving is a low skill job, if they had an actual wage they would make like 15 bucks an hour unless they worked at a Michelin restaurant or something.

Enrages me too because servers make way more then line cooks or janitors yet still b-word and moan

100% would rather my tips go to a line cook’s coke habit because they work far harder than any server and they get paid shit.

We have become so concerned with micro aggressions; we have closed our eyes to macro aggressions.
