Tipping culture is one of the early signs that I'm becoming a boomer.

  • When I grew up the standard tip was 15%, and I'm not sure when it changed to 20% but I only really acknowledged this like a year ago.

  • I have no shame really about tipping 0 for counter service and stuff. I figured that the requests for tips everywhere were only coming up as a cute byproduct of PoS adoption, and I ignored those. But now companies seem to have a serious expectation that they'll be tipped for ringing up a purchase? I'm not buying it yet. I have no social anxiety about looking a wagie dead in the eye while pressing the 1 pixel on the screen that lets you skip giving a tip.
