Now my keys are in the cupholder but in a locked garage. I'm more concerned about someone stealing my cowtools than anything. In the past ten years only had one incident -- a nonviolent guy trying to go into unlocked cars / garages because he wanted to go to jail.

Depends on life situations tbh. I'm going to be spending $1800/mo for my 1br apt with in building parking and I'm like 3 streets away from the heart of downtown. After I get a gf though, I'm having her move in to cut that in half and begin saving for a home. If we get real serious then the home move will be tremendously simple. If I move out to suburbia without a gf though then finding someone to date is going to be much harder.

Did a job in Iowa where we had both union and nonunion electricians.
The union head kept showing up and trying to convince us that we'd make so much more if we joined the union.
Looking in the parking lot, I'm not buying it. Our guys all have newer trucks and cars. They're all driving rusted-out beaters. The nicest car amongst the union guys was a base model, seven year old Acadia with a missing bumper.
Even here locally, the union guys will do their whole shpeil claiming "$90/hour" and all that. I'm already getting a good wage, great benefits, 401k with match, 3½ weeks of PTO, travel bonuses, gainshare, and a nicer company truck than the union rep is driving. What could they offer me besides the chance to be put at the bottom of the totem pole?

Nah man. 85k in NYC is not 85k anywhere else. Especially if you have a family. After tax and deductions I see maybe 60% of my check. I have my pension, Union dues, health care, and all the taxes we all pay deducted.
