Poverty isn't a refection of morale good, but neither are the poor inherently virtuous

One thing you'll realize when you live and work amongst the stifling poor in SA is how underperforming poor peeps can be, as how how very very little you'll poeple you'll find with the motivation to change their circumstances

In every class of school students ever, you'd always find a gradient of lazy unmotivated slobs and hardworking achievement addicts, who do you think tends to find the most financial success in adult life.

It is true that poverty can find anyone, I've also been without employment in life also, but the peeps who fallen on hard times and go to great lengths to work hard to ensure their children have a better future tend to be outnumbered by the laziest and worst peforming dregs of life by a factor of dozens

The drug addled and drunk, the lazy and stupid and malignant untrustworthy thieves. In a class of 100, it was completely unsurprizing to me which children had decent high paying careers post-school and whom were low-wage whites struggling as tellers or sweepers.

There were exceptions in terms of nepobabies failing upward with rich commercial farmer parents securing their underperforming moron kids decent jobs they didn't deserve, and there were hardcore working kids from poor as shit broken-homes who tragically didn't have the parents to help them pay for tertiary education and were white so could not obtain a bursary from the gov, life is unfair.

As a surveyor i have to physically walk and interact amongst the poorest people of society, so i see the naked face of many of the poorest, and how people are unmotivated to even clean the trash from their street or even their front yard.

I understand that hope tends to be for the middle-class, as they plan and act for a better tomorrow, while the poor tends to not see a future and that their every tomorrow will be a stifling one, thus snuffing the hope one needs to work and act as if for embetterment of tomorrow.

But ive also seen how the reality of the noble poor and how many of them are the architects of their own misery is a norm. I dont say this that i believe people deserve to live within the misery of SA levels of impoverishment no matter their work quality, but that laziness and bad intrinsic values have been a very real filter to people on society's economic ladder

What I don't get is how thirdies can be so bad with money when there's actual risk of going hungry for them or other bad things happening. I get first world soys wasting money on funko pops and living week to week, because shit is safe here, but I'd be horrified and terrified to live week to week in Africa or India. They do it though, and more of them do it than the poors in the first world.

Very few people actually starve in the "normal" third world countries.

Depends on the type of developing country, there's no one starving on Brazil, it has been like that since the 90s with a small dip on food insecurity in the Northeast during the pandemic because of food price hikes. I think starvation is limited to places dependent on subsistence farming followed by crop failure.

Because it's not them who'll starve, it's some other sucker.
