Ironically, the reason the blue states have so many homeless people is that there are more services and support in those states. Like anyone else, homeless people make the best decisions they can for their own well-being. It's just irritating when red states then say "we don't have a homeless problem" - they're creating the homeless people but not helping them after they're homeless.

People in that thread just blaming Reagan is hilarious. Ronnie cut funding to a lot of institutions because of pubic outcry of the level of treatment at these institutions. The knock on consequences were that a lot of these people went to the streets. He does deserve that albatross. However, the recent explosion of homeless is more in relation to drug abuse than just straight mental illness. Drug abuse that was more or less legalized in deep blue states. Ironically a lot of the chatter against holding people involuntary comes from the redditor side of the political spectrum. The homeless problem is wingcuckery manifest.

Yes, It's a drug problem not a homelessness problem.

Jail. We should jail them and force them to work in manufacturing.

Crucifying junkies on the side of every highway would solve the problem. I don't know if that's realistic though.

Maybe 20 more years of this shit will change the public appetite.

Ironically new york city was pretty shit at health care so geraldo broke into a mental asylum and showed what liberal healthcare looked like they shut everything down.

Of course it was "republicans fault" decades after the fact we just needed nyc to get their shit together
