'they' predates woke stuff and afaik started to be used around the early 90s. I think it's a suboptimal word choice (as 'they' already has a specific meaning) but a word to refer to a non-specific s*x is fine imo

This is my pet peeve, "singular" they/them is fricking ancient, everyone has always used it and anyone who doesn't realize it is a literal NPC

I like Stallman's idea.

Use the elegant gender-neutral pronouns "person", "per" and "pers". They fit into English smoothly. They are easy to remember, since they come from "person", and the last two resemble "her" and "hers". They are natural to use, since they work just like "she", "her" and "hers". "Pers" ends in a voiced consonant, just like "hers".

Plus it'll make trains angry
