Now I have to brave the audiophile forums and talk to people who insist that spending any less than $500 on some placebo shit with a fancy case is unthinkable.
Audiophiles are funny to observe but annoying to interact with when you actually need to get useful information out of them.
I wonder what the psychology is behind that tendency to suggest the most pointless overpriced stuff. Do they all get duped into overspending and recommending otherwise requires them to admit their mistake?
The ones I'm using at the moment cost about $20 and lasted about 4 years. They were fine but now the right ear is buzzing.
Are there any other earbud users on rdrama? What sort do you have?

I have some AirPods I got as a present and they're really great. @HalloMimwee can help you find a really good pair of headphones as he's a bit of an audiophile. These are the ones he uses AKG Pro Audio K712 PRO Over-Ear, Open-Back, Flat-Wire, Reference Studio Headphones https://a.co/d/6njOrvT

I would never wear those in public lmao. Both because they require an amp, leak sound like heck, and also because they make you look like a peepee. Great for listening at home, though . @arseupwrongo get some cheap Chifi buds from Moondrop or something, obviously China has a bad rap but they've been coming up in the last few years, frfr

People look at me funny on the bus because I wear a pair of huge electrostatic headphones with my dac+amp on my head like an African woman carrying a pot of water to her village

I have $20 earbuds from some brand called 'SoundPeats' (yes, 'Peats.' Thanks China) that are great. The only thing I don't like about them is the charging case is huge and it makes me look like my pocket is pregnant with a rectangular baby.
And yes, audiophiles are the worst. Never listen to them. Whenever I hear "highs and lows" I insert a fresh magazine into my AR-15.

I have cheap earbuds for when I'm exercising and I treat them basically like they're disposable trash (they are). I don't need sound quality to listen to podcasts, and I really don't want to have to worry about jogging in the rain or anything because of breaking my earbuds.

I might be a minority here but I hate IEMs. The ones that go into your ear canal? Just awful and uncomfortable.
I have Soundpeats Air3 earbuds. They're nice and comfy, and sit in your ear but not inside the canal itself. Some audiophile is gonna tell me I should feel the sound being injected into my brain but they're just r-slurred.
Only real downside are the touch controls. You can disable the one-touch shortcuts which I highly recommend. You need some dumb phone app to do this but it's not difficult.
Also they cost like $40 or something.

Agree tbh. I use mine for hours a day and that gets uncomfortable quickly.

Jlab epic air sport. 100 dollars, they have noise canceling and aware mode and fit great in your ear. I've put 700+ hours on mine and they still work great a full charge will last me all day.
