i've been using a vizio for almost 10 years by now, 1080p
is it worth upgrading? All my torrented media is 1080p x265/4

omg! 4K videos end up being 50+ gb a lot of time and honestly I dont notice a difference other than the sound quality, and Ive read that you like only really notice 4K difference in films if youre close to the screen so its great for games but not really noticeable for tv of films

if you're streaming it you probably won't notice at all, not sure if that's what you're doing. Its definitely noticeable for films, @Red_Shill can't think of any 4k TV shows. The 4k cut of "The Thing" looks so much better it's insane

that would come down to the torrent, not the resolution. but i guess rippers max out the audio quality if they realise the file size will be enormous due to the 4k.

Thats it exactly, and The 1080p rips they seem to squeeze them down and the audio suffers but the UHD they keep literally all the audio sweetness intact

OLED looks noticeably better than any other type, and they've gotten quite a bit cheaper but are still really expensive comparatively. Depends on what you want too do with it, really. Will you game on it? Want too watch 4k Blu-rays? 4k torrents will look good as well, not quite as good as blu-rays but it's noticeable. A lot of the 4k cuts coming out look amazing.

It depends on the lighting. OLED will always struggle in well lit living rooms, but the contrast ratio is great for HDR.
High end LCD's definitely still have a place. (I) baby (my) screens, but OLED will inevitably burn in elements, it's cumulative.
Use cases like boomer parents or monitor usage is the absolute worst case for OLED no one should be doing.
OLED is best as a dedicated media display. (I) also keep high end LCD's (I) play 4:3 media like Star Trek on. The letterboxing will create a quasi-burn in effect on the OLED with how much Trek (I) watch.

Mid range wled ips panels have gotten really good, but they pack them with stupid gaming's picture modes and garbage color calibration out of the box.
This is a $300 ips monitor that I use for editing. Full sRGB coverage, once I ran it through my datacolor calibrator my prints have been pretty much perfect
Yea it's not great for movies but I only use my desktop for working

You sound like you know more about it than me. @Red_Shill honestly don't think about it that much, the TV @Red_Shill had was a regular HD from like 2011. @Red_Shill will say I've had @Red_Shill's OLED for around 4 years and haven't had any burn in, and @Red_Shill don't notice it not looking good in @Red_Shill's well lit living room either.

Most if not all modern OLEDs have pixel refresh and, more intensive, panel maintenance features that run during standby to reduce/fix/delay burn-in. My OLED has been good for a year so far and I use and abuse this thing A LOT.

Laughs in HDR1000 giving off enough nits to fry your retinas.
My Alienware OLED is the best display I've ever seen and I'm really neurodivergent about this stuff. Like no contest. 1440p IPS to 1440p OLED HDR was as wild of an upgrade to me as moving from a CRT to a 1080p TV.

FR I dumped $$$ on a high quality 4k projector some years ago and honestly unless it's freezeframe 1080p is fine even 720p aint bad for like 90% of shit. And 60fps 720p > 30fps 4k.

there's one of those 'amazon pallet returns' places near me and they're asking $300 for an old-butt projector that still used halogen lights and only supports up to EGA resolution

I mean projectors are fantastic, I'm just saying without a ultrapremium screen and projector I doubt your gonna notice 4k vs 720p without freezeframing, it's an advantage it has like CRTs, resolution doesn't matter as much. but yeah EGA is abyssmal

I'm not sure about the latest gen but ~3-4 years ago a friend's suffered burn-in like old school plasma TVs used to.
So treat them with kid gloves, 100%

1080p still looks pretty alright on 4K display because of the pixel ratios crossing over nicely or some shit I forgor . Same reason 720p doesn't look half bad on 1440p display. I'm sold on OLED. Modern displays have pixel maintenance features that help remove and/or prevent burn-in while the display is in standby. My OLED monitor has been great with tons of use for a year now. No burn-in despite getting drunk and falling asleep several times with pause menues on the screen for 8 hpurs. My only issue is a stuck blue pixel that goes away after a 5 minute pixel refresh cycle.

resolution isn't worth it imho, unless you can run your videos through a good upscaling "AI" algorithm, which requires a good GPU to do in realtime.
what may be worth it is switching to Mini-LED or to OLED.

The actual resolution is honestly not that big of a deal, other aspects of image quality are more important. If you only have SDR 1080p stuff, you'll get some improvement but not as much as you would with good input.
