Head bolts pulled themselves out of the block due to bad casting / factory torque specs. So basically it's a head gasket job with the extra step of drilling out and doing inserts on the block.
She claims it never overheated - I don't think she makes long enough trips to cen get it up to temperature regularly. Just noticed not getting heat one day.

And if you're worried about shit going back together, go get some paint markers and electrical tape in different colors and color code the wire and hose connections.
It's too late for that. I think I'm good getting the correct ones hooked up. It's missing one or two, or putting a bunch of shit back together and then realizing I forgot a step.
I've got plenty of time to peepee with it. It's just a matter of missing my raccoon and worrying that he's going to go off and mate or find new territory while I'm gone.
I know I'm late to this but I used to work on kias as an apparentice and they are so fricking bad. The old v6s in the mini vans used to have faults where the cylinder sleeves would seperate from the engine blocks. Just garbage.

I had to fix my Toyota 7M-GE with a similar issue (under torqued) but its was an iron block so it's was as easy as a head service + ARP head studs. youd have to strip this to the block, take that to an engineering shop/engine builder which is a total frick around as you most likely know already.
Looking at this I'd say get a wrecker/junk yard motor but it'll probably have the same problem.

How much of the shit you had to remove to get to the heads is actually critical? I usually run into a 50/50 split of actual important shit VS plastic garbage any time I'm working under the hood.
A lot of stuff I'm not going to bother with, like fastening down all of the wires. It's got a lot of little coolant hoses though. Like who needs a water cooled throttle body? Never run into one of those before.
Taking the camshafts and chains out make me a bit nervous but I think I've marked it up with enough paint pen to get it back just right.

What was the original issue you need to fix?
I don't like the look of that antifreeze.
