So I've been watching a lot of youtube police bodycam videos and whenever anyone talks to the police or someone in a position of authority they always use this weird style of speaking

It's characterised by something like using whatever word has the most syllables for a particular thing plus frequent and incorrect use of 'self' words. e.g.:

Normal way: 'I saw someone talk to two women over there, then he crossed the street and talked to me.'
Talking to a policeman way: 'I saw an individual speaking with two females there and then he proceeded over the street and spoke with myself.'

Why do people do this. Is it police jargon emulation? An attempt at formal speech? :marseyconfused:
