Android """"devs"""" are as bad as web devs

I'm trying to find an app that can record phone calls. A simple task. But literally no app can do it because "google said no and removed the heckin' api!!!" (except in india, they can still records all the calls they want)

These people must be the laziest peepeesuckers to ever live, "Oh noes there no api 4 dat!!!!" It's a fricking linux system isn't it? Just get root access and record any data sent to the speaker while a call is in progress!

But even dev refuses, citing "muh security, muh play sotre rulzzzz, muh legality" as if any of that matters a single frick to the end user

inb4: "But you can't just intercept that data, muh SElinux!" disable it. You can do it, you have root.

inb4: "why don't you do it then?" Because I know nothing about andorid, have never written a single app using their SDK (I just compile my go/c/d for linux/arm and use a termnial app as a wrapper) and can't find out which device file gaydroid uses for the main speaker because every result is "make big $$$$ making your first app TODAY" Because android is the new web 4.0 and infested with jeets

My last phone was 8 years old before I upgraded lol. The only reason I stopped using the 4S was I hated itunes and not being able to just drag and drop stuff onto it

does that mean you have an iPhone then :marseyconfused:

It means I still have my old iphone 4s (jail broken)

But I started using droid when I needed a phone that wasn't going to have support dropped after a year of existing

Apple has had the best track record of software support on their devices.

You can now after they changed App Store policies.

Things like GameCube are unlikely to come unless they allow third-party JIT compiled code.

tbh dev is nta this time. I tried to make a simple 'notify me when the json from this webpage changes' app for my phone once. A literal one or two lines on linux. I gave up a couple of hours into reading why you can't even reliably 'run every X seconds' on android.

You can't get root access without a rooted phone.

https://f-droid.org/packages/com.github.axet.callrecorder/ works but only if your phone supports the API.

Apparently LineageOS includes call recording in the default dialer.

Workarounds for devices that don't support the VOICE_CALL audio source (eg. using microphone + speakerphone)

Recording the speaker using the mic is not call recording, it's digital AIDS

Exactly, that program doesn't support that ability.

Neat. I've been putting off install lineage too long anyways

Honestly it's pretty good. Only GrapheneOS is better imo, and that's Pixel exclusive.

GrapheneOS

And like a million other pixel roms it doesn't support the still pretty new pixel 3

My s5 had 8 years of support from lineage and still has unofficial updates.

At least they have a good reason for it. GrapheneOS exists mainly for security, and if the firmware is out of date that compromises that goal.

Why are older devices no longer supported?

GrapheneOS aims to provide reasonably private and secure devices. It cannot do that once device support code like firmware, kernel and vendor code is no longer actively maintained. Even if the community was prepared to take over maintenance of the open source code and to replace the rest, firmware would present a major issue, and the community has never been active or interested enough in device support to consider attempting this. Unlike many other platforms, GrapheneOS has a much higher minimum standard than simply having devices fully functional, as they also need to provide the expected level of security. It would start to become realistic to provide substantially longer device support once GrapheneOS controls the hardware and firmware via custom hardware manufactured for it. Until then, the lifetime of devices will remain based on manufacturer support. It's also important to keep in mind that phone vendors claiming to provide longer support often aren't actually doing it and some never even ship firmware updates when the hardware is still supported by the vendors...

Devs are just lazy in general and I hate the projects I manage.

All of them are apps that have more package dependencies then a single mom with three kids. Can take 40+ minutes to build service.

All because devs want to use libs and their precious apis instead of actually programming something.

I think big telco paid off Google to stop call recording so they could continue to make $$$ from their own shitty voicemail services

If you think Google gives a flying frick about user privacy, ask yourself why "internet access" isn't a toggle in your app permissions
