Broke my screen replacing the usb port on my Pixel 3a XL, no big deal right? 5 year old phone, very popular, lots of replacement parts!
It's 130 if I buy locally. I could upgrade to a pixel 4a XL for 160.
Even from Aliexpress it's 55! That's 1/3rd the value of the phone!
Why are there no after market parts? I don't need oled! I don't need HD! I'd take a 480 led screen if it was cheap

Yea it really is. They know I need that screen to backup my photos and shit, they have me by the balls.
And of course every phone I could buy for parts has a smashed screen.

You don't need a screen to do that. Just a USB c to hdmi adapter. With something like this you can plug in a mouse and keyboard too

I don't think Pixels support hdmi over usb. At least, my 6 doesn't

Probably not one of those pieces of shit. Those little grey Chinese ones half the time have something fricky, best just get a USB C to USB A cable, which may have just come with the phone connected to a charger anyway.
God I hate those pieces of shit little grey hubs.

setting up backup procedure + debug access via scrcpy should happen very early in the setup phase when getting a new phone. You got a relatively cheap lesson here

I don't know if it's because I changed the hardware, or some ubuntu bug, or a bug in ADB but after swapping the usb port for the new one the device is now unauthorized.
Can a mobile javacel shed some light?

are you sure you also enabled the settings that adb certificates don't get periodically deleted (I think the normal lifetime is one week)

I did not.
Once again I am screwed by google

honestly, custom roms should disable all this security theater crap by default. Technical users don't need the guard rails, and we already get theft discouragement if the 99.9% of normies have locked down devices
User who install roms already implicitly voiced their opinion on the freedom vs security tradeoff

A lot of roms don't even publish builds for the pixel 3 anymore because the firmware is EOL so it's "insecure"

Its a Pixel phone. Did you turn off auto-backup? It should auto-backup to your google account everytime its plugged into a charger longer than 2 hours.

I flashed a custom rom because google stopped updating it, I back everything weekly going to change that to daily when I get the new screen

Only if you enabled that in developer settings while the screen was usable. Ever since I got fricked by this same scenario I do that first thing when I get a new phone
