I've spent three days trying to clean my garage and bedroom. Any progress I make just reinforces the fact that I have too much stuff and eventually will have to sell it or throw it out when I have to move.
My phone also showed me "memories" photos from back when I borescope the cylinders on my car and now I'm back to being convinced I'm going to need a $15k rebuild in the next year and I don't have $15k to do so.
It's nice to be able to see my floor now though. Cats seem to enjoy it.

That's just the cost of the parts and machining too. I've never assembled an engine before but I'm sure I could do it with the right instructions. Having it actually fully done by a shop is around $35k, which is basically the current value of the car.

Oof, my dad inherited a Mercedes and he sold it to some young lady who thought it looked cool, that poor mofo.

$15k sounds like the price for a new shortblock. Can't you get a used stripped block for less than that?

A new block will have lokasil cast-in cylinders and will just bore score again. The only way to actually fix it is to bore it out and have nikasil sleeves put in. It's like $5k for the sleeving, then $2k for new pistons, $1k for all of the gaskets, $1k for the instructional book and videos, but then there are all of the bearings and stuff that need to be replaced while you're in there.
Thinking about it now I definitely could do it for like $10k and reuse a lot of the wear items, but I'm back to being unemployed and $10k might as well be a million dollars at this point.
