I've spent three days trying to clean my garage and bedroom. Any progress I make just reinforces the fact that I have too much stuff and eventually will have to sell it or throw it out when I have to move.
My phone also showed me "memories" photos from back when I borescope the cylinders on my car and now I'm back to being convinced I'm going to need a $15k rebuild in the next year and I don't have $15k to do so.
It's nice to be able to see my floor now though. Cats seem to enjoy it.

Honestly though, what will help is hard exercise. Like don't stop until you're completely soaked in sweat, disgusting exercise. It sucks at first and you've got to push through that, but it will make you look and feel way better in the long run.
Also, no alcohol or other drugs.

I was getting really satisfied detailing cars and making them all shiny but I ran out of people who would pay me to detail their cars.

Yeah stuff like that is fine, healthy even. But as you saw it can end through no fault of your own. External circumstances can't remove the accomplishments of activities like exercise nearly as easily.

Except becoming a cripple.

Sure, but there's risk to any activity in life. The cars OP was tuning up could've collapsed on him or something resulting in a severe injury too.
Proper exercise does have some element of risk sure, but as you get stronger it's risk (and the risk of injury in other activities) decreases to below where it was originally.

Oh yeah, I meant that becoming a cripple is one of the few external circumstances that can stop you from exercising. After my hip got fricked up I could at least still do pushups. Now with this knee thing I'm afraid to even try doing that.

I dunno. I've only broken bones twice in my life but both times it was a really horrible injury to the same leg. Also I managed to get (admittedly not very severe) cancer in my 30s.

what flavor of cancer did you get (and presumably defeat)?
