It's also just how the Middle East fights wars in general. They use artillery and bombs to destroy every structure to dust and then slowly move ground forces in with air cover and tanks until the enemy is pocketed and then you continue to bomb them to death.

Recall the decisive battle of Mosul against ISIS. It's incredibly difficult to dislodge enemy combatants when they are irregulars deliberately hiding in civilian infrastructure.
Hamas and ISIS use these tactics because they know how destructive it is and how bad the optics are. People really didn't care about Mosul though lol that's like the 10th time in history that city has been razed to the ground anyway. It was overdue.
