In Australia, where all your trees come from (and probably all your wildlife too, how the frick should I know, I'm not a Burger), we do controlled burns.
We've had environmentalists and nimbys try to stop them, and I think they might have succeeded for a while there, but then we had some really bad bushfires, and after that some of the controlled burns started getting nudged in the direction of the environmentalist organisation's offices and the nimby's homes and I haven't heard much from them in a while.
