It's a shithole (next to an even bigger shithole in East St. Louis) and the the city limits are weirdly small despite the metro area being fairly large. The crime appears concentrated since it has a relatively low population for a major American city.

More like the police have completely given up doing anything because the DA refuses to prosecute, City Hall is on the criminals' sides, and even pulling over someone for not having a license plate results in a 30 minute+ tirade from the driver about how they're racist pricks.
