Follow up to this.

My main takeaway from this, a hypothesis that I've been developing since the first time I voted and was appalled about how our side managed to lose, is that the people running the Democratic Party don't want to win.

Look at how the Democratic Party works in South Korea. The they're hounding the current president's wife because:

Would be such a MILF but...

• She's a weirdo.

• She's into geomancy.

• She believes that she's clairvoyant.

• She accepts very small bribes.

• She's childless. She doesn't hear the pitter patter of childrens' feet in her house, just the paws of cats. (Yes a female DP member actually this.)

The last president before that:

• She might have been fricked by a cult leader in the 1970s. (Heard this one direct from a Korean ajumma.)

• She's the lesbian lover of that guy's daughter (I've actually never heard any Korean say this but it's so fricking obvious I'm gonna say it now.)

• She's always been controlled by the cult.

• She sank a ship carrying 1000 kids as part of a human sacrifice to that cult.

• She's childless.

It's not important how many of these things are true (it's a lot ). There's one pattern here to me that's really obvious: None of these things are ideological. They're things that would offend rightoids as much or more. That's what you do when you're trying to win. You try to appeal to the middle to join you and the other side to be so disgusted they stay home.

In America the Democratic Party would rather lose than do anything obvious like:

• Call Trump an r-slur.

• Call out Trump directly for adultery. (It's everyone's right these days.)

• Call out Ivanka for being a literal whore. (Some GenX dem got really offended at me when I even said this on a message board.)

• Cut ties with the Teachers' Union and appeal to parents. (You ever wonder why you're losing support among blacks?)

• Drop the whole gun control issue. You lost on this long ago. Every time you bring it up you're (no pun intended) shooting yourself in the foot.

• Say that you're against illegal immigration without using a bunch of euphemisms that us regular people don't understand because we didn't just graduate from Oberlin with a gender studies degree.

• Block blatantly illegal mergers that directly effect consumers, like the one where all grocery stores in the western US are merging.

• Do a publicity stunt on Columbus Day where you say something like "I won't apologize for America."

• Insinuate that Lindsay Graham is homosexual.

• Say that abortion is really bad but it shouldn't be illegal. (Remember when Clinton did this and won?)

• Say that you're not "woke" and denounce "anti-racism". (Virtually everyone in America agrees with this.)

• Acknowledge that blacks have been losing their jobs to illegal immigrants for a long time.

• Reform the tax code so that ordinary people don't need to have so much stress about it. Blame the other side for stopping you.

• Reform corrupt county sheriffs and judges so that you can't get held up by highwaymen in uniforms and given a ticket while traveling through hick towns. (The President can't actually deliver on this, but promise it anyway.)

• Stop treating Cesar Chavez as the token LatinX you'll appeal to all Latinx through, because you're lazy and want a Martin Luther King of every minority and they're all the same.

• Stop saying LatinX.

• Call out Republicans for blocking every attempt to stop illegal immigration for generations.

• Propose actually doing e-Verify.

• Explain to r-slurs that building a wall was always a scam because most of the illegal immigrants come right through the gates and just overstay their visa.

• Emphatically support nuclear power to combat climate change.

That's just off the top of my head. I've got better ones I can't remember right now, issues that neither party will address but are really important to the American people.

I've heard that the Democratic Convention in 1980 was already like this. By now it's terminal. The Democrats these days are a bunch of special interest groups tied together by intersectionality, which just means nobody can do anything because someone might be offended. It's an organization where most of the people don't give a shit if their party wins or loses because they'll keep their "activist" job either way. For the rest of us who are actually voting, that's not good enough.

Harris campaign spokesperson Ian Sams said in an MSNBC interview that the vice president will not be on Joe Rogan's podcast.

"We talked with Rogan and his team about the podcast, unfortunately, it isn't going to work out right now because of the scheduling of this period of the campaign," Sams told MSNBC's Chris Hayes.

Sams also said that "the vice president is happy to go anywhere and any place to talk to a broad segment of the country."

Reuters reported last week that Harris might sit down for an interview on Rogan's podcast in an effort to galvanize more male voters. The publication said Harris campaign officials met with Rogan's team earlier this week but had not confirmed an appearance.

Former President Trump plans to sit for a Friday interview with the podcaster on "The Joe Rogan Experience," which boasts more than 14 million followers on Spotify, according to Politico. The former president has never been on Rogan's show, which has faced criticism in recent years over commentary on public health and other controversial issues.

With the Nov. 5 election just over a fortnight away, here is an intriguing thought experiment.

By most accounts, the election is still a horse race too close to call. But although Vice President Kamala Harris quickly assumed the presidential mantle from Joe Biden and put in place an impressive start-up, October has not been particularly kind to her. Donald Trump has closed the electoral gaps, and some believe he is actually leading.

No matter who wins, we have to ask: Would President Biden have been a better candidate and choice despite suffering from the effects of age and 81 years? Further, suppose that the disastrous June 27 debate with Trump had not taken place, or that Biden had been firing on all cylinders that night. Would Biden have been forced to withdraw? And whether Harris loses or wins, some will ask whether Biden might still have been a better candidate.

Bob Woodward's new book, "War," might not be dispositive in representing Biden's strengths and weaknesses. The book does add weight to this thought experiment, though. Woodward paints a very positive picture of Biden's ability to lead and to govern despite making mistakes, most notably the disastrous withdrawal from Kabul.

Woodward also reports that Biden's obvious decline was physical and not mental. This was caused in part by prior medical conditions accelerating the effects of age on a body. There were also the strains of high office; the president refused to limit his overworked schedule despite valid criticisms that he was on near-permanent holiday in Delaware or Camp David.

Kamala Harris's role as Woodward describes events was not as significant as Biden's national security team, who were his band of brothers and sisters. And Woodward did not focus on domestic politics.

Today's politics remain visual, whether on television or social media with a constant flow of posts that millions of subscribers download every day. In fairness, Trump is an entertainer, showman and salesman. He may be overweight and wear excessively long ties while obsessing about his finely coiffed hair, but he gets away with it. And Trump, like the Energizer Bunny, seems to have unlimited endurance.

The physical comparison between the two presidents could not be more striking. That must favor Trump and in a small way accounts for some of his widespread public support. He is also interesting — love him or hate him, Trump is far from boring. The size of his audiences at rallies confirms that.

Harris is a generation removed from both presidents. As President Vladimir Putin slyly observes, she has a "contagious" laugh and a very buoyant and positive attitude. That is refreshing and a counterpoint to Trump's bleak and dystopian view of the world.

If Biden were still the candidate, he would have to overcome these physical and visual disparities with Trump. To do that, Biden would have to mount an aggressive campaign to portray Trump as a convicted felon, unfit for public office. For some reason, the Harris campaign has downplayed this conviction and his three other pending cases, as well as Trump's major character flaws.

The public may have decided, as senior Democrats have, that Biden is too old to serve. Had he been re-elected, Biden would have been 86 at the end of his second term. Given his age, it is not impossible that Biden could suffer a major health event.

Trump is only three years younger than Biden. He is certainly not immune to the vagaries of health, as his vice presidential nominee, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) understands.

But Biden is not running. And with the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Biden now has an opportunity to help conclude a peace agreement in the Middle East. That would be Biden's legacy. One hopes he will pursue that opportunity.

As I have previously written, Americans may not know the winner right away, given the likelihood of contested districts and recounts. Yet, when the 47th president is decided, at some stage, people may wonder whether the best choice was not Harris or Trump.

In retrospect, perhaps America would have been better served if the 46th president Joe Biden won a second term.
