Black people recount the hilarious ways their parents psychologically tortured them as kids.

My father often called me an illegal immigrant from Nigeria, he’d threaten to tell the police to have me deported if I didn’t follow his orders.

when i was 6 my mom started pretending to be dead when i came back from school and she’d go the whole way bc she’d hold her breath when I tried to test and id tickle her and hit her and she continued pretending for a full hour while i mourned her

had a mate, her and her husband used to lie on the floor covered in tomato sauce when their 3 kids came home from school, they thought it was hysterical! All the kids are grown up now and all have serious problems!

My dad told me it was too expensive to get me a birth certificate so they registered me at the pound. My dad also said that when he spanked me he wouldn't get in as much trouble because I'm a dog

My dad used to tell me I wasn’t dark enough to actually be his and he was just doing the mailman a favor 😂😂😂

burgers are strange. On one hand their kids take absolutely no responsibility for their lives, are incredibly sheltered, pampered, and their schools are so PC. On the other hand, regularly beating your kids is seen as normal life.

Beating your kids definitely isn't seen as normal in most communities. I'd guess only about 13% of Americans see that as ok.

The 13.5% who showers with a family hand cloth.

that is still 13 % that would have their kids removed immediately though

I know this is supposed to be some sort of race bait but I'm pretty certain the majority of Americans support physically harming your children as a form of punishment. I don't and I'm always either alone or in the tiny minority with that opinion.

Not just an American thing either, in fact I bet support for this is higher in most other countries.

I mean my cousins are white and still got hit with a belt as punishment.

My parents on the other hand never physically hit me for any reason, ever. Of course I also didn't do anything even remotely worthy of it.

I remember having a class discussion about this in high school. All the white kids thought it was weird and all the black/latinks kids thought it was normal to get hit with belts or whatever. This was the suburban Midwest, in a liberal but not woke community.

I'm a Midwest ruralcel and can't think of a single person that supports corporal punishment, or at least would admit to it. I've gotten the impression that it's more acceptable in the south for sure. But claiming it's more acceptable in the US than the rest if the world is fricking dumb.

Southern. Spanking is a necessity and you're a braindead moron if you don't do it or you continue after they are 6/7.

Well it's legal in the US in all 50 states and it's not legal in some other countries (like G*rmany). But it's also clearly common. Most children in the US report being physically punished as a child so even if parents talk about "oh we would never do that" they're lying.

I've gotten the impression that it's more acceptable in the south for sure.

This is absolutely true, and makes intuitive sense as well.

Maybe a generation or two ago, but even spanning has fallen out of favor and we are worse for it.

We need nuns smacking kids with rulers

I think spanking your children for misbehaving is still widely seem as acceptable.

It’s acceptable in the sense that you can do it without getting CPS called on you like a switch will but increasingly taboo, just Google spanking and you’ll get a million “it doesn’t work think”pieces.

I'm sure if you simply survey thinktank slop you'll get that result, but that's not the same as what the general public feels.

I tried finding some surveys and got a pretty wide gamut of results, probably due to either sampling or phrasing differences.

https://www.brookings.edu/research/hitting-kids-american-parenting-and-physical-punishment/

More than 70% of Americans agreed in 2012 that, “it is sometimes necessary to discipline a child with a good, hard spanking.”

Another survey put it at 42%, but I think that was some kind of internet poll so probably had a sizable sampling error. And, either way, the majority of Americans were physically punished as a child, even in the 17-and-under age bracket, so clearly it's still pretty commonplace.

Like obviously doctors and stuff are against it because it's obviously wrong and ineffective, but most people don't actually give a shit about doctor recommendations.

It’s the same woke army vs Russia men debate. All the successful kids come from coddled homes, but burgers’ crime rate has to come from somewhere
