Clockwise from left to right: Arabic bread (pitta bread, kubbus), homous, moutabel (baba ghanoush)

Shit's fabulous

Baba ganhoush slaps but pitta and hummus is Greek.

If you call it kuboos and homous it's Levantine and you're a filthy colonizer

The Greeks already have taramasalata, they don't need to claim homous

I really really love that stuff. The arabic moutabel is a bit different from the Egyptian (?) baba ghanoush in that it tends to have bigger chunks of eggplant and some yoghurt mixed in to make it creamier and less garlicky. The eggplant is grilled on charcoal first I think so it has this amazing slightly burnt/blackened taste.

It's really splendid stuff.

I never used to like it but I've grown to like it. It's good in thai curry too.

It's a sort of light lunch/starter, lebanese style. If you were putting together a proper lunch you'd usually have something extra like stuffed vine leaves, feta cubes, olives, something a bit extra.

Homous is a dip made with chick peas and sesame seed oil/paste (tahini)

Moutabel is a dip made with grilled eggplant, tahini, greek yoghurt garlic etc

They're both really good tbh

Stuffed vine leaves are also good, they stuff them with a slightly vinegary beef/rice mix. Nothing like a burrito, quite a sharp taste.

Dolmas (stuffed leaves) are a lot easier to palette the first time if you warm them up

Got a good recipe for the herb omelette?

I don't. I used to live next to a hotel that had a ridiculous mostly-lebanese buffet and I went to it far too often and sampled everything, I'm just posting my recommendations. The herb omelette was a nice one with tahini/taratour sauce but I don't know what herbs they used in it. I didn't taste any thyme/rosemary or anything strong like that, I'd guess parsley and chives. A quick glance around also suggests (a tiny bit of) mint and I do remember it having a very slightly minty hint to it.

It's not all good. I tried the 'shanklish' and really didn't like it. Horrible fermented cheese that looks like stirred brain.

Enclosed another spread: kuboos, giant shawarma, homous, moutabel, pickles

The pickles are good!

A good solid cheeseburger with bacon and a ton of really crisp fresh salad is well within my top #10 meals

People really sleep on burgers as they're not snobby enough and just 'working class bar food' but if done well they're just wonderful

There's a local chain here that was awesome for burgers (even did "exotic" meats like Bison or Elk) but they lost a lot of talent w/ COVID. Think I'll hit my local pub after a haircut.
