Those cops are clearly abusing their power and need to fired and arrested, however that BIPOC is r-slurred. Just get arrested and stop fighting and the psycho cops wont beat your butt.

It’s always the typical MO

  • Usually no licence or some kind of missing paper work.

  • Why you pulling me over ? / Show me your licence repeated back and forth 100 times

  • Won’t get out of the car

  • Won’t give his hands

  • Fights. Resists. Runs away.

  • Gets stomped / shot to death by the cops.

  • Surprised pikachu face.

  • Autozone around the country burn to the ground.

It’s almost a cliche at this point tbh.

It baffles me how other videos of guys who legit comply with all their requests but get shot anyway bc they made a mistake due to the cop asking something intentionally confusing like 'turn around and walk the opposite way you are facing' are NEVER met with the outrage cases like this one with a clearly uncompliant victim

Because that's an easy win. That's no good. What you as an activist need to do is show support in a hard to defend case. Because you "mean it", then you get cred in your group. This leads to activists defending pedos, murderers and male feminists time and time again.

The Simon says video in the hotel is honestly the most disturbing police killing I've ever watched. Dude was begging and pleading trying to follow their impossible and conflicting orders.

Jump in the discussion.

I think part of this stems from the fact that the outrage needs a longer standing tension that is basically looking for an excuse to boil over.

Autozone around the country burn to the ground.

Leading to the next neighbor being stopped for paperwork bullshit

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I don't know if this shows the first stop but the cops were holding his arm up while hitting and pepper spraying the dude. The whole time yelling "Put your arm behind your back!" Like, neighbor you've got it twisted up and are holding it so he can't. They did the same thing in the overhead cam. It shouldn't take beating a dude to death in order to handcuff some rslur.

The real failure is they relaxed hiring standards in order to hire unqualified BIPOCs.

God the whole time I'm just screaming LET THEM ARREST YOU FOR FRICK'S SAKE. Bro you are dealing with violent psychos who have way too much power, rolling around on the ground trying to stop them from cuffing you is not going to lead to any sort of victory for you.

I feel like I should be focusing on the cops being pure evil or whatever, but I'm so stuck on how having a single lick of sense during this encounter would have easily saved this dude's life.

yup, true from their very first riots in fergeson - forget struggling against arrest, all brown had to do was walk on the goddarn sidewalk instead of the middle of the street and the encounter would have never happened.

Brown was known as a horrible person in that area before the shooting. Dude was widely regarded as a POS, bully and thief.

My buddy is a PoC, met his bio dad and straight up said his mom having custody fricked up the kids life. She had no interest in parenting amd wanted the check

It's kind of like being a r*pe victim at a party or something tbh

Of course the perpetrator is pure evil and needs to be punished severely for their actions

But my god, there are some basic things in either case you could have done differently (don't drink with creeps or invite them into your home, don't argue with cops or physically resist) to avoid the entire situation

The end result is still fricked up regardless, but, man...

God forbid you point out they use situational awareness, like pouring your own drinks when with people you dont know.

There's a weird lack of curiosity about why the cops are so agitated with him, and what he was doing beforehand (which we still don't know).

These dudes are being railroaded by a police chief trying to make a name for herself. Same tactic as 2020 - get a bunch of r-slurs on the internet, who have never been in a brawl, spun up about some shit they don't know anything about.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah, the interaction was strange, like they knew each other or something. The beating seemed personal.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

To me the beating seemed like a guy resisting arrest for five whole minutes, immune to pain and not getting tired meaning he's probably on drugs. The only thing I saw remotely objectionable in that case was the guy kicking him. Supposedly in the face, but I can't tell that from the video.

For all I know at this point this is another Floyd - died of drugs, incidentally in the custody of police because he was doing something illegal at the time.

Something else is going on here. The Memphis Chief of Police announced this video on the news all day Friday like she was gathering an audience for an event, doing interviews all day. And then they dropped it at primetime on a Friday night after the media steadily hyped everyone up for it all day. And as if by magic all the usual NGOs from 2020 were ready to roll like they had been planning it for weeks - signs printed, locations planned. And as I said before - they still have not released any other details about this thing. No autopsy or toxicology reports. Not even what he was doing before the footage they released.

My bets are on the police chief making a cynical political play.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Did you watch the footage from the camera on the street? You can see what’s happening a lot better than the body cams. It honestly looked like a bunch of thugs beating up some dude.

But I agree that we don’t have all of the facts yet.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I have. The guy is resisting the whole time - immune to pain, not getting tired. I don't know how people imagine that police are supposed to handle the situation, but that's how it gets handled. They tried tazers, didn't work (drugs). They tried pepper spray, didn't work (drugs). Five men tried wrestling him, didn't work (PCP, meth, or cocaine).

What they didn't do, which is glaringly obvious to me at least, is use any choke holds or try to pin him to the ground with their bodyweight - because those two things are specifically banned for police now. So punching and kicking him to gain compliance is all that is left in that toolkit thanks to previous anti-police activists getting their way. If they were just going for a beatdown you would expect at some point for a cop to pin him down with his bodyweight.

>immune to pain

>as he screams in pain and cries out to his mother

I’m normally side with the police but this is the most clear cut case of police abuse.

Oh man, he cries out for his mother. Definitely must be legitimate. A criminal would never cynically scream out that they're the victim while trying to evade arrest. :marseybrainlet:

Tell me what drugs make your muscles immune to electricity. The taser obviously didn't hit completely.

How r-slurred are you that you think pinning someone down to arrest him is illegal, but punching and kicking him isn't?

BIPOC there was a whole summer of love from a cop forcing a chokehold on a brotha. No police will ever take that risk again when phones and cameras are everywhere now.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

George Floyd wasn't a "chokehold", and forcibly pinning someone down is the safest and easiest way to put cuffs on someone. A seatbelt grip or joint control holds are completely non-lethal when done properly. That's what cops are trained to do and they do it every single day. How the frick is that worse than punching and kicking him to "gain compliance"? In what world does it make sense to claim that that was "all that was left in the toolkit".

People aren't upset about suspects being tackled, they were upset about them dying. There are ways to arrest people without killing them.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

The police have lost the credibility game. Any publicised incident of cops trying to subdue someone is immediately seen in the worst light possible. To the wider public trying to pin someone down on the ground is attempted murder and brutality. Any aggressive action to restrain suspects or use of firearms will be taped by bystanders and framed as illegitimate.

My point is that cops are afraid of being another chauvin so they spaz out even more under stress.

It wasn't really enforced as a hard rule until 2020. Now most police departments follow DOJ guidelines, which is to not pin someone to the ground with bodyweight on the chest cavity lest they run a .001% chance of dying in the process.

None of those links shows someone resisting the effects of a taser. It's not possible, it's sending electricity through your muscles, that's not something you can mentally push through. You're confusing "gets back up quickly after the taser stops" with "defeating a taser".

>It wasn't really enforced as a hard rule until 2020. Now most police departments follow DOJ guidelines, which is to not pin someone to the ground with bodyweight on the chest cavity lest they run a .001% chance of dying in the process.

I don't know what this infographic from 1995 is supposed to prove, but no police department in the country forbids putting someone on their stomach to cuff them. Kneeling on someone's neck or chest for an extended period of time is an entirely different thing. How could you possibly think that it's more contentious to do that than to literally punch and kick someone into compliance.
