You are not accelerating nothing is pushing on you. Imagine a hula hoop. On one side is the triangle the other side is the platform. If you stand and the hula hoop falls on you, you do not accelerate to the other side of the hula hoop.

The difference is it's a connection to another space.

Imagine if you were in a car going 20mph south and teleported into a car going 20mph north. You'd be moving relatively 40mph opposite the car's velocity and (probably?) die due to the acceleration once you hit it

So when you move at velocity A in space 'red' and are 'relatively' motionless (inertia) but instantly enter a space moving at relative velocity B in space 'blue', you are truly moving at velocity (B - A) in space 'blue'

No force is applied to you but you still would fly out. Inertia & reference frames.

If the portal approaches the person you can imagine it as a physical space approaching him. The physical space has a relative velocity of x mph, if you enter it you will be moving at x mph once you enter it. But that's relying on Sci-Fi physics which is bullshit anyway. :marseyshrug:

You move forward (direction irrelevant) into the portal, you come out the portal forward.

You can jump off a ledge into one portal, and another portal next to it launches you straight up. The change of direction doesn't hurt you.

As far as you're concerned, the direction didn't change. How does this work?

The difference is that the top and bottom of the hula hoop are moving at the same speed. If the portals were back to back on the smasher it would act like going through a hula hoop, because both would have the same velocity. When the exit is stationary you fly out of it because you leave the portal at the same speed you enter the portal.

suffice to say that the closess thing to portals that is physically possible would be wormholes. but wormholes aren't really like portals, they're nontrivial spacetime geometry.

Inverse it. If you were suspended and a hooka hoop passed around you at 100 mph, it wouldn't suddenly stop once it got to your feet. It would keep going at that velocity. The same way your body would keep going at that velocity it you passed through a holla hoop.
