US highway system appreciation post

Oh?? You need to go to a town 50 miles away and don't have much time? No problem fam, you can go like 80 mph before a cop even GIVES A SHIT. That highway isn't anywhere near you??? Babe, you're so silly. They all connect and we can get you from A to B in record time, nw. Just listen to Siri and take exit 279B.

And those big scary trucks?? They aren't allowed in the fast lane. 😎 We even post cute safety messages on light up billboards so you don't forget to buckle up (the government cares about you, you don't need God).

God bless the US interstate highway system (especially the Stevenson Expressway) and God bless America.

I avoid highways whenever possible and take scenic backroads instead! :marseywholesome:

When one has the time, they are the best. Added tip: there's this app called Roadways America that gives you maps of little touristy things (think things like the biggest ball of twine or the "Monument to the Faithful Slaves" in SC) you can see on your trips. Worth it.

When I had to temporarily go to ATL for work from NC, I remember seeing it the first time and thinking “is that the thing from House of Cards?” And then some locals told me about how SC peaches were better than GA peaches. (I'll end my old man stories now.)

Is it only on Android? I don't see it on iOS. I love shit like Atlas Obscura

It should be on iOS since that's what I use. But, in proper old man fashion, I misnamed it. The app is called Roadside America, and it has a green and yellow color scheme (like a road sign). You get one map quadrant of the US for free, the rest you have to pay for, but it's not too expensive.

What does a Chicagoite and a Redneck have in common when driving?

They're both strapped for an afternoon drive:marseyshooting:

After I took Route 11 I swore off i-81 for good. Easier drive with no trucks, better views, and delicious potato chips.
