Fun fact the Asian carp :marseycarpasian: are the gigayonkind of the Mississippi River, unwanted, yet they keep making more of themselves just as our gigayonkind make more accounts. They are invasive species and there is much concern that they will one day make it into the Great Lakes, which are connected to the Mississippi River system through the Chicago River and a series of canals.

https://onezero.medium.com/a-huge-underwater-electric-fence-is-the-great-lakes-big-hope-against-a-carp-invasion-787da3f35c08

They put up an electric fence underwater to prevent the carp from migrating north.

Asian Carp :marseycarpasian: are the worst, even worse than @Soren

:#marseyfuckoffcarp:

Not to be confused with the common carp. Like our carp is the enemy of gigayonkind, the common carp :marseycarppat: a native species that is the enemy of the Asian carp :marseycarpasian: which continues to out breed the common carp and (((consoom))) its eggs before they can hatch

We have a massive problem with them in our fentucky waterways. They're the heroin addicts of fentucky rivers and lakes. They treat them just like they should the land vermin.

Fun fact on non cryptospecies I'm afraid of

When I was working for the :marseyglow: my boss, who used to be a park ranger out west, said the only animal she was scared of was the mountain lion. Because with bears you can hear them coming, you won't see or hear a mountain lion until it's on top of you.

They are native to Vermont (UVM's mascot is the Catamount which is another name for them) but were eradicated in the 1800s. But they've been migrating back from the Midwest through Canada. I blame @Soren

Many sightings lately, and there was one confirmed that ended up getting hit by a car all the way in Connecticut and likely traveled through Vermont.

Lmao

No grizzly bears in Quebec, only black bears and they rarely eat people.

They are someone in NJ a few years ago, but it is very rare.

I have seen black bears before, they are common in the adirondacks and while not particularly dangerous (am more afraid of pitbulls tbh), they are an annoying menace, the @getogeto of bears.

hikers used to string their food up in a bag hanging from a tree branch at night, but the bears have learned to break the string and get the food down, so now you're supposed to get this "bear canister" which they can't open or carry away cuz it weighs like 15 pounds and put all your food in it.

One time I forgot to do that and they tore up my tent and ate my toothpaste.

We already have invasive fresh water jellyfish and those zebra mussels. I don't want bad-tasting carp filling up the lakes.

I do like that invasive vine stuff, forgot the name. Interesting looking.

Wrong. All invasive species are awful. Fun fact Schizocel used to work for a certain government agency :marseyglow: Schizocel job was eradicating invasive species. Schizocel has personally captured and euthanized thousands of invasive aquatic invertebrates and destroyed tens of thousands of invasive plants
