You should read 'Goodbye to all That' by Robert Graves. He knew T.E. Lawrence personally and gave some interesting insights in that book (spoilers: Lawrence stole other people's achievements and glorified his own war record).

I was always more shy and emotional than the other boys my age. I didn't have a good relationship with my father growing up, which combined with a kind of vague feminist perspective in the world led to the belief that only women were virtuous.
