Forget this hate for gentle child-rearing pibbles. The real statistic we should care about is that 800 TRILLION BIRDS HAVE BEEN GENOCIDED because house cats can and do kill a bird about every 8 seconds that they're outside.
You may have let your cat outside and thought that it's okay because she only brings back about 3 birds/year and desperately wants you to be proud of her for that. Or maybe you've sat outside watching her and seen that she spends an hour at a time scanning with her ears and eyes for any sign that some b-word is moving in on her turf even though no other female cats have lived in the neighborhood. Maybe you've noticed that she spends the other 23 hours/day eating and sleeping. But you didn't notice that while you were blinking, SHE KILLED 47,000 BIRDS.
This is totally real and based on real science and not just the personality disorders of weirdos who want to keep their cats sealed up in their own little dystopian hellhole where they get to play god and never risk their toys having a life and death of their own.
