Yeah this was actually a fairly severe crisis. Israel had killed a couple hundred UN peacekeepers before. The French came in and said they were actually going to be serious. LeClerc tanks and Crotale SAMs. These were obviously to keep the Israelis the frick back.
The Israelis backed down when they realized someone had called their bluff and they didn't want to test themselves against the first world.
It's very similar to an incident in 1982 when the Israelis tried to go into a zone in Beirut under our protection. They wouldn't take no for an answer until a United Fricking States Marine got up on top of their tank and put his .45 up to the head of the company commander and said he'd fricking kill him if they went further.

LATER THAT YEAR AN IRANFUNDED AND TRAINED SUICIDE BOMBER BLEW UP A FUEL TRUCK NEXT TOO THE MARINE BARRACKS IN LEBANON. 241 AMERIKKKAN LIVES WERE LOST THAT DAY, LEADING TOO THE MARINES MOVING OFFSHORE, THE MNF'S BREAKUP, AND THE LEBANESE GOVERNMENT'S FALL.
